Warhammer 40k Apocalypse Mega-Battle

Date: Sunday, November 13, 2011
Entry fee: $10
Point level: 3000pts per person
Start time: 10am

Once per year Heroes on Paper runs a HUGE Warhammer 40k event — and this November it’s going to be a store-wide Apocalypse battle!

Each player may field up to 3000pts. We’re using standard rules (NO Apoc strategems, etc.), with the following exceptions: no Force Organization (you may field units from multiple armies); and you MAY field super-heavies, but they cost 50% MORE points than listed.

Players who don’t have 3000pts can still participate by teaming up! In that case the entry fee is $10 per team and one player must be nominated as general. The general will have the final say in all team decisions.

The store will split all players into two teams. We’ll be providing pizza to everyone who enters the event, and we’ll be awarding prizes to best general, best sportsman and coolest overall army.

Warhammer 40k Escalation League

The goal of an escalation league is for you to begin with a small force and add to it in small increments as time passes. Each week we’ll add 250pts to the size of our battles. Unlike previous escalation leagues, this time around you’re allowed to add or remove units at your discretion — you only have to stick with the same army from week to week!

Each week of the Escalation League lasts Sunday through Saturday. All players will be assigned their opponents on Sunday for the following week, and it will be up to those players to set a date and time for their League game if they’re not available on Sunday, which is our official League day. While games do not have to be played on Sundays, they do have to be played at Heroes on Paper.

Each League game that you play earns you points. Points are awarded as follows:

  • Win: 3 Points
  • Draw: 2 Points
  • Loss: 1 Point
  • Painted Army (requires at least 2 colors on each model you field): +1 Bonus Point

Each player will play two Escalation League games against the one opponent each week.

Entry Fees and Prize Support

This Escalation League has a one-time entry fee of $10, due on the first day of League play. Prize support will
be distributed in the form of store credit; 100% of each entry fee will be added to the prize pool and distributed
as follows:

  • 1st Place: 50%
  • 2nd Place: 25%
  • Best Sportsman: 15%
  • Best Painted Army: 10%

We do reserve the right to alter the prize structure prior to the end of the league.

Weekly Scenarios

  • Week One: Pitched Battle, Seize Ground (3 objectives)
  • Week Two: Spearhead, Kill Points
  • Week Three: Dawn of War, Discover the Objective
  • Week Four: Pitched Battle, Escort/Kill Points
  • Week Five: Spearhead, Seize Ground (5 objectives)

Cabrera Sets a Monster and ends.

Singh drops a Red Gadget and Smashes Cabrera’s Fortress Dragon. Yellow Gadget hits the field and Singh attacks into Cabrera’s Sazenk and Cabrera is hurting now.

Cabrera draws and, with maybe one more turn, Summons his whole hand – Cyber Dragon, Ninishi and Nishipachi. He Synchros for Bureido and searches a Kuick, then Synchros for Burei and searches a Haipa. Utopia is switched to defense and Cabrera swings into him with all three monsters, destroying Singh’s whole field!

Cabrera drops a random Space and hits Bottomless Trap Hole. He Summons Saizan and plays Karakuri Cash Cache, searching Ninishi.

Singh drops his Red Gadget and brings out his Utopia.

Cabrera draws and plays Ninishi and Machine Duplication! He drops his Merchant and searches for Nishipachi, then Synchro Summons Barkion and Xyz Summons Leviathan Dragon! Leviathan pumps and swings into Utopia, and so does Barkion! Singh negates both attacks and Cabrera plays Monster Reborn to bring out Merchant and Synchro Summons Catastor!

Singh drops a Machina Gearframe and searches a Machina Force, then drops a Fortress for another Fortress and rams it to destroy Catastor and Barkion! Utopia trades with Leviathan and Singh ends.

Cabrera draws into Heavy Storm and blows away Singh’s backfield. He drops a Cyber Dragon and Nishipachi and Synchros Bureido, then Summons Kuick and Nishipachi. Instant Fusion brings out a Cyber Saurus, which nets Cabrera another Bureido and another Nishipachi! Those make a Landoise and Cabrera is in firm control of this game!

Singh drops a Yellow Gadget and Cabrera discards Dark Hole to negate it. Singh follows up with Fortress and takes out Landoise, then ends.

Cabrera draws into Limiter Removal. He turns a Bureido to defense to draw twice and attacks into Fortress, losing himself a Bureido.

Singh drops a Green Gadget and ends.

Cabrera turns Bureido to attack to draw, then flashes the Limiter Removal – and Singh scoops it up!

Rich Cabrera pulls out a back-and-forth 2-0 victory over Satinder Singh!

Boxes for Bits!

Heroes on Paper wants your spare WARHAMMER 40,000 bits, and we’re offering trades on ALL of our plastic boxed sets for them!

From today through Sunday, August 28, you can bring in your clipped Warhammer 40k bits and exchange them for store credit toward plastic boxed sets in the 40k line.

We’re using a one-size-fits-all approach to trade-ins; fill up the Bits Cup at the counter and get $5 off the purchase of any boxed item. Fill it up twice and get $10 off; we’re not placing a strict limit on how many bits you can trade in or what the maximum discount amount will be, but we do reserve the right to set that limit at any time and for any reason.

THE RULES:
All bits must be plastic and come from the Games Workshop Warhammer 40,000 line. All sprues must be completely removed prior to trade-ins; if you try to pad your trade-in with sprues you’ll be going home without a discount.

Bits may be unpainted, primed, or fully painted; as long as they’re recognizable and in usable condition we’ll accept them.
